Celebrating the life of

Patricia Ann Thamm Gillikin

July 05, 1935 - February 09, 2024

Patricia Ann Thamm Gillikin

Patricia Ann Thamm Gillikin, 88, passed away peacefully Friday, February 9, 2024, following an extended illness. She was born in Port Wentworth, Ga and was the daughter of Mercedes Mary  Edgerly and Otto Thamm Jr. and step daughter of Jerome Rogers “Pop” Templeton.

Affectionately known as "Patty," she was a wonderful sister, wife, mother, Aunt, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, friend and neighbor and will be incredibly missed by any and all that had the pleasure of meeting and knowing her. She adored her family and friends and always made sure they were well cared for and loved. Her family home in Garden City was the playground of the neighborhood for all the children who grew up in the area and she was a mother to so many just as all of our families were with each other. She attended Cathedral Day elementary school, Saint Vincent’s Academy High School and was cheerleader for Benedictine Military School where she met the love of her life, Roy C. Gillikin. They married in 1954 and resided in Port Wentworth, GA before eventually moving to Garden City, GA. Her childhood was spent growing up on the old Savannah Sugar refinery road in the village along with 70 other Cajun families from Louisianna  one of which was her grandfather, William Louis Edgerly who was tasked with building the Sugar Refinery which became Dixie Crystals Sugar. She grew up there with her lifelong friends Donnie J. Barras, Carole Bercegeay Barras, Roxie Barras Bryant, Barbara Barras Colson and Alan Marks.

A faithful Roman Catholic, Patty attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish where she was married and served various roles in the church including Communion Minister in which she, along with her husband Roy delivered communion to various nursing homes. She was honored with various awards for her service particularly the prestigious Bishop Gartland Service award for lifetime service to the Catholic Diocese of Savannah as well as the Michael A. Finocchairo award and the Benedictine Medal of Excellence.

She worked in the accounting office at Union Bag for 11 years and cafeteria Superintendent for the Cathedral Day school (23 years) and Benedictine (26 years). She loved life and enjoyed dancing, traveling, camping, football and theater among many other things. Some of her fondest memories were Myrtle Beach summers with the Donnie Barras and Richard Bryan families.

Patty was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Roy C. Gillikin and two children, Roy Michael Gillikin and Rex Jerome Gillikin. She is survived by her younger brothers Jerry Templeton (Susan) and Rex Templeton Sr. (Beverly) as well as her children, Michelle, Roy A. “Buddy” (Jodi), Dennis (Louis) and grand-dog Zeke.

Visitation from 5-6:30pm and Rosary will be held starting at 6:30-7pm  Friday, February 23 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive.  A Mass of Christian Burial for both Roy and Patty Gillikin is planned for 10am March 1st at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Port Wentworth, GA.

Patty loved flowers and the family invites remembrances for Hospice Savannah, Saint Vincent’s Academy, Benedictine Military School and Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
